Filing a roof claim is the most stressful part of storm damage — paperwork, phone calls, adjusters, supplements, depreciation releases. Bluebird handles every piece of it from the first inspection to the final payout. You sign two pieces of paper. We do the rest.
Most homeowners only file one or two roof claims in a lifetime. Insurance companies file thousands every week. The system is built for them, not you. Bluebird sits on your side of that table.
We've been on roofs across Spartanburg after every major hail and wind event for the last decade. We know what each carrier looks for, what they tend to miss, and how to document damage so the claim sticks. When the adjuster comes out, we're up there with them — pointing out every dimpled shingle, every torn flashing, every soft spot in the decking — so the scope of work is right the first time.
If a supplement is needed (and it usually is), we file it. If a denial happens, we appeal it. When the work is done, we handle the closing paperwork directly with the insurance company so your final payout lands without you having to chase it.
The work is paid for by your insurance. Your only out-of-pocket is the policy deductible.
After a big storm we triage by who needs us most urgently — every roof gets inspected within 5–7 days.
Drone imagery, line-item photo report, Xactimate-formatted scope. Carriers know what to do with it.
The same Bluebird crew member who walks the inspection runs the install. No handoffs, no "let me check with the office."
Here's exactly how a Bluebird-handled storm claim flows from the day we get on your roof to the day the final check clears.
One of us comes out, climbs the roof, and runs a 25-point inspection. We capture drone imagery for context plus close-up photos of every hail strike, lifted tab, torn flashing, rusted nail pop, and granule scatter pattern. If there's interior staining, we document that too.
You get a written report with date-stamped photos and a clear yes/no on whether the damage is claim-worthy. If it isn't, we tell you. We won't sell you on a claim that won't stick.
✓ We handle thisMost homeowners prefer to file themselves so the claim stays cleanly under their policy name. We give you the language and the documentation packet your carrier will ask for: date of loss, type of damage, photos, contractor info. Some homeowners ask us to be on a three-way call with their adjuster's claim line — whichever you want.
We'll never file a claim without your written permission. The policy is yours; the decision is yours.
→ You sign & file (we coach)This is the most important hour of the entire claim. Adjusters are time-pressured — they cover six or seven roofs a day. We climb the roof with them, point out every piece of damage we documented in step one, and make sure nothing gets missed. Things adjusters tend to overlook: hail bruising on the back-slope, ridge cap damage, valley flashing, stack-pipe boots, drip edge, ice and water shield, decking that's been hit and is now soft.
We negotiate scope of work in real time, on the roof, before the adjuster's report goes back to the carrier.
✓ We handle thisThis happens on most claims. The adjuster's initial estimate comes back missing materials, missing labor codes, missing code-compliance items (drip edge, ice barrier, ventilation upgrades that current code requires). When that happens, we file a supplement directly with the carrier — line-item documentation, photos, code citations.
The supplement gets approved or partially approved, the scope of work updates, and the next payout draft reflects the full job.
✓ We handle thisTear-off and install is most homes in one day. Our crew arrives at 7am, lays down ground protection, tears off the old roof, replaces any rotted decking, installs the full CertainTeed system (starter strip, leak barrier, deck protection, shingles, ridge cap, ventilation), and cleans up so well you'll have to look hard for a single dropped nail.
You pay your deductible to us at the start of the project. That's your only out-of-pocket cost.
✓ We handle thisOnce the install passes our final walk-through, we send the closing packet directly to your insurance company: itemized final invoice, lien waiver, certificate of completion, and the depreciation release form (which triggers the recoverable-depreciation portion of your payout — often 30–40% of the total claim).
Your final check arrives within two to four weeks. The CertainTeed manufacturer warranty gets registered the same day. You're done — and you didn't have to chase a single piece of paper.
✓ We handle thisIf you don't see yours, ask — we've worked with most of the smaller regional carriers too.
Honest answers. If we don't know an answer for your specific carrier, we'll tell you that too.
The claim has to be filed under your policy, by you — that's how every insurer works. What we do is make filing painless: we provide the documentation packet, draft the language for you, and (if you want) sit on a three-way call with the claim line so we can answer adjuster questions in real time.
Most homeowners prefer to file themselves. Either way, we never file a claim without your written permission.
Whatever your policy says — usually somewhere between $1,000 and $5,000 depending on whether you have a flat deductible or a percentage-of-coverage deductible. We don't know your specific amount until you check your declarations page.
Important: we will never offer to "absorb" or "waive" your deductible. That's insurance fraud and it puts your claim, our license, and your future coverage at risk. The deductible is your only out-of-pocket cost on the project, and it's paid to us at the start of the install.
Storm and hail damage are typically classified as "acts of God" and don't affect your individual premium in South Carolina the way an at-fault auto claim might. Carrier-wide rate increases after a major event sometimes happen, but those affect every policyholder regardless of whether you filed.
That said — every carrier is different. Always confirm with your specific agent before filing.
Roughly: inspection within a week of your call, claim filed within a day of inspection, adjuster walk-through within one to three weeks of filing, install scheduled within thirty to sixty days of claim approval. Closing paperwork and final payout within two to four weeks of install completion.
After a major storm event, all of these timelines stretch out — adjusters get backed up, materials get delayed. We tell you upfront if your specific situation is going to take longer.
It happens. Sometimes the adjuster missed something, sometimes the carrier's algorithm is overly conservative. We help you appeal — file a re-inspection request, submit additional photo documentation, escalate to a senior adjuster.
Most initial denials we've seen get partially or fully overturned with proper documentation. If the appeal still fails and the damage is real, your next step is a public adjuster (a separate licensed advocate who works on your behalf) — and we can refer you to a couple we trust.
Most insurance policies pay out in two checks. The first check (Actual Cash Value) is the depreciated value of your roof — the materials minus age and wear. The second check (Recoverable Depreciation) covers the remaining amount, but only if you actually replace the roof and submit closing paperwork proving it.
That second check is often 30–40% of the total claim value. A lot of homeowners leave it on the table because they don't realize they have to file the depreciation release. We file it for you.
You can absolutely shop the claim. Once you have an approved scope of work and an Xactimate estimate from your carrier, any licensed roofing contractor in South Carolina can quote off it. We're confident in our pricing and our work, but you're never locked in.
What we ask is this: if you're going to shop, do it before the adjuster walk-through, not after. Once we've negotiated scope on your behalf, switching contractors mid-stream gets messy.
We won't tell you the damage is worse than it is. We won't waive or absorb your deductible. We won't file a claim without your written authorization. We won't pressure you to sign a contract before the claim is approved. If a contractor offers any of those things, walk away — every one of them is illegal in South Carolina, and they'll burn you in ways you won't see for years.
Free inspection. Free written report. Zero pressure. If your roof needs a claim, we'll handle every piece of it. If it doesn't, we'll tell you that too.
